The DNA of Information
In this chapter, bits and atoms are explained by the author. He also used the easiest example to make it clear. It was regarding his laptop which when he was asked of the value, he said 1 or 2 million. What he meant was that the computer was of a much lower value than that but what made it expensive was the data inside it, the laptop, the atoms, the data and the bits.
Thanks to the internet, things are much more simpler now. With everything we need online, all we need is a computer and internet access. But, of course, technology is constantly changing, and there always seem to be more aspects of it to be improved. Though the bits can be transferred easily with almost no work at all, the atoms will have to depend on us.
Negroponte mentions merits to digitization which include data compression and error correction.
"Being digital allows you to deliver a signal with information added to correct errors such as telephone static, radio hiss, television snow.using a few extra bits and increasingly sophisticated error-correction techniques.."
Just what was mentioned here is already a big help for all media. The results will be appreciated by everyone.
