Good Connections
Clearly, Negroponte is quite disgusted at the fax machines and much prefers emails. He starts by saying that it is "..a serious blemish on the information landscape, a step backward, whose ramifications will be felt for a long time." Such strong words but well backed up.
He further says that it is not an intelligent medium. For the reason that everytime you send a fax to someone, his/her means of replying, storing your message is gone, or at least more troublesome. Where you typed it and then pointed it out, he/she too has to type it again. This makes it more time-consuming. Speaking of time, an email can be sent to a lot of people at one time, much faster than a fax message to one person regardless of where.
Also stressed is the fact the email costs less than fax and accomplishes the same amount of work if not more.
