Hard Fun
This chapter is about finding easier ways for children to learn and the difference of street smarts and smart "smarts".
Negroponte gives the example of his son whose teacher said was having problems computing 2 and 3 digit numbers. Turns out, all that was needed was a technique of making the numbers dollars instead. Which his kid had practice of playing Monopoly. When we don't understand things, all we need is association of something we are familiar with and then it becomes easier.
The author makes it a point to distinguish street smarts from smart smarts. It is true that not all or even most of the successful ones come from the smart smarts. Being street smart does get you places.
