The New E-xpressionists
This chapter talks about computer and art. Negroponte starts by saying that children below 7 years of age are very much encouraged to be creative and express their thoughts and ideas through art, but when they reach 7, art suddenly becomes an extra-curricular activity. Something you do only when you have free time. This makes the left side of their brain work more, and the right goes on vacation.
When it comes to music though, things seem to go along well. Negroponte mentions that in a room full of computer science students, when asked whom are interested in music, a lot raised their hands.
Computers and this form of art do get along well, perhaps not at first but in the end, it all works out. Thanks for the "media lab".
