INSTANT MESSAGING EXAMPLES

  1. ICQ. This was made to sound like "I seek you". It was created in November of 1996 by Mirablis -- a company made up of four Israeli programmers. The ICQ was one of the first programs made available. And now, it is one of the most popular real-time tool that uses a software application which you can download to your PC for free. ICQ was acquired by AOL in June 1998. (www.cnet.com)
  2. AOL Instant Messenger (also known as AIM). An estimated 45 million people use AIM. This utility offers real-time and multi-party chat. (www.cnet.com)
  3. YAHOO MESSENGER. This program offers real-time exchange of messages with friends who are online. In additon to that, it allows multi-party voice conference calls. Users can access information from Yahoo any time while chatting with friends.
  4. MSN Messenger Service This is similar to AOL however, it is not-Mac compatible. MSN Messenger is an instant messaging program that tells you when your firends are online so you can send a message to a friend or talk with several at one time. It requires a Hotmail account and notifies you when e-mail for you has arrived at Hotmail.
  5. TEXT MESSAGING. This is the most popular instant messaging now that needs a GSM cellphone and a SIM card. In the Philippines, two cellphone biggies-- Smart and Globe-- provide this service enabling one to receive and send messages in real-time.
  6. BUILDTALK This is a free service which provides the latest in real-time messaging technology. It provides an ichat Paging System and Pager Client which elivers instant communication capabilities around an office and around the world.
